All you need is some time, a few simple tools, and a helper. You can also hire a surveying firm to draw the garden plans for you, but this can be a costly option.
Whether you have ready-made plans or will be drawing them yourself, you will need to locate the exact boundaries of your property on the ground. If you plan to add or remove plants or fences near the edges of your property, it’s important to know if you are on your land or someone else’s. Neighbors can get irate, and you might even end up defending yourself in court, if you are off by even a few inches. So locate your property lines before you do anything else. If you don’t plan to make any changes near the perimeter of your property, you can probably get away with not locating the exact boundaries.
